What is Public Liability Insurance?
Public Liability Insurance covers your legal liability to pay compensation for personal injury or damage to property happening during the period of insurance, and caused by an occurrence connected with your business. Reasonable legal costs of investigating and defending claims against you are also covered.
What about specialised cover?
MGA provide tailored covers to the painting industry and has the support of Master Painters Associations in most states. Special inclusions for painters and decorators include:
- Use of heat guns
- No height restrictions
- Cover for overspray
How much cover can I get?
Liability limits of $ 5,000,000, $ 10,000,000 and $ 20,000,000 are available. Due to elevating awards and court costs, it is recommended that you consider higher liability limits. A serious bodily injury claim settlement could take may take many years to settle, therefore the limit you have today may not be adequate in several years time.
I have sub-contractors. Are they covered?
MGA has a number of options for sole traders and proprietary limited companies which take into account claims that may arise through sub-contractors or employees. If you engage sub-contractors, or work yourself as a sub-contractor to a principal, particular care is needed to make sure you have the public liability cover you need. More information on subcontractors can be found here
